What have you been reading?

Now that the school year is moving right along, I'm wondering what you are reading for fun, for book reports or for Silent Reading?

I'm currently listening to The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits and a Very Interesting Boy by Jeanne Birdsall as I drive to work. Its a great book to read to try to hold onto summer, as we begin to welcome the fall. I'm also reading Witch Child by Celia Reese at home, which is a great historical fiction novel about a girl who is an orphan and bravely makes the journey to America in the year 1659.

So, what have you been reading and what do you think about it?

For silent reading I am reading The White Giraffe by Lauren St. John. It is a wonderful book about a girl that has to move to Africa because her parents died in a fire in England. When she moves to Africa she doesn't know whether or not her grandmother really loves her. She becomes best friends with a mythical giraffe, and she doesn't know whether or not she can keep her friendship a secret.

For silent reading I've been reading the book Alias. It's a really good book about a girl who is recruited for the CIA, even though she thinks that she can never do anything right. I like her friend Francie who is always willing to do anything, and has a really happy personality. I haven't finished the book yet, but I know that I will like it when I do.

But with a crazy kidnapper after her, can she make it?

I recently finished reading a great book called Scribbler of Dreams, by Mary E. Pearson. In this book, two characters who come from families that hate each other fall in love. One lie leads to a bunch of lies, and as much as the Kaitlyn wants to tell the truth, she doesn't know how or when she should do it. She thinks that if Bram knows who she really is, he will hate her, too. I really liked this book because of the romance and I kept reading to find out if she was going to tell him the truth. You should read this if you like romance with a little bit of suspense.

Mrs. Ekstrom,
I finished reading the Tomorrow series, (if you ever read it skip the last book because it ruins the series), I read Gathering Blue, and I am currently reading The Kite Runner which is, so far, living well up to its reputation as an outstanding book. Also, I’m checking the public library for The Art of Racing in the Rain as Mrs. Schaefer recommended. I am also very ecstatic for the coming of Ghost Hunter, the last book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series I’ve been raving about.

Hi Jake,
Thanks for the advice about the Tomorrow series, that's good to know. How did you like Gathering Blue? Did you read Messenger? I have read both. If you’ve read both, then you’ve read both books that are companions to The Giver. I have read The Kite Runner, (actually I listened to it), and I really enjoyed it. What is The Art of Racing in the Rain about? When does the last book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series get released? I’m glad you’ve been able to find time to read!
